Double-acting control collar lever for Bosch VE pumps, 9 mm center-to-center distance. This type of lever gives you much more adjustment range than a stock lever, allowing a significant fuel increase without runaway issues.
Why this type of control collar lever?
Most stock control collar levers found in car and 4x4 pumps are designed for low-output engines and don’t allow much adjustment of fuel delivery. As a result, it’s often impossible to turn in the full-load screw without negative side effects: revs that are slow to drop, or even engine runaway.
A lever like this one, with a short center-to-center distance, allows a greater fuel adjustment range, so you can turn in the full-load screw without any problems.
Installation
The pump must be removed, along with the pump cover and the hydraulic head. The ideal time to swap the control collar lever is therefore during a pump rebuild or installation.
The lever is a direct replacement for the stock part, but pay attention to two details:
- The throttle linkage notch is on the right (when looking at the back of the lever, from the governor side). A right-side notch is typical of car pumps, but please check your old lever before ordering.
- The notch is a hole, not a slot. This doesn’t cause any problem for installation: simply remove the clip at the end of your throttle linkage, remove the idle spring, fit the linkage, put the idle spring back on the linkage, then refit the clip. (See photo.)
